HVDC Converter Station 1

A high-voltage DC (HVDC) transmission line essentially consists of an connverter station, which converts AC voltage from a conventional electricity grid into DC voltage, a transmission line and another converter station at the opposite end of the line, which converts the DC voltage back into an AC voltage. This allows energy to be transported in both directions. It is always necessary to have two converter stations in order to operate this system.

HVDC converter station 1 has the following features:

  • Operating modes:
    • Control of active power in both directions
    • STATCOM mode
    • Coupling to the power grid at various frequencies
    • “Fault ride-through” support
  • Generation of AC voltages with minimal harmonics by means of IGBT converters
  • Automatic control of reactive and active power, frequency and voltage
  • Transmission of up to 1 kW active power
  • Provision of up to 1 kVAR reactive power
  • DC link circuit voltage adjustable up to 750 V DC
  • Built-in power switch for switching into the grid
  • USB port
  • Built-in brake chopper
  • Supply voltage: 3 x 400 V, 50...60 Hz
  • Dimensions: 297 x 460 x 210 mm (HxWxD)
